WA Drink Driving Novice Range

The blood alcohol concentration of a person holding a learner’s or probationary license is considered novice range drink driving offense when it is higher than 0.0% but not higher than 0.05%. This traffic offense may be charged against drivers who do not hold full license, are minors and have been issued their first license. They are subject to the 0.0% BAC limit.

If the BAC is higher than 0.0% but not higher than 0.02%, the penalty is a fine of $100 per the infringement notice and a range of $150- $300 when it is imposed by the court as when the novice driver appealed the infringement notice by the police. There will also be 3 demerit points. When the BAC is higher than 0.02% but not higher than 0.05%, then the penalty of fine imposed by the court will be between $150-$300 and three months’ disqualification from driving.
