WA Drink Driving High Range

High range drink driving in Western Australia is the same as in most other states in Australia. It is driving when the blood alcohol concentration of the driver is higher than 0.15%. At this high level of alcohol concentration in the blood, the driver is considered to be drunk and thus, driving or operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. This is a more serious offense unlike other drink driving offenses where the driver has gone beyond the prescribed blood alcohol limits set by law for his type of license.

A this high level of alcohol concentration, the driver is a danger to himself and to all other road users because his capacity to operate the motor vehicle is severely impaired. He will not only be penalised with the automatic disqualification for two months, he will also be penalised with ten months’ disqualification from driving and a fine between $900- $2500. He will also be required to undergo the alcohol interlock program as a condition for the reissuance of his license. The alcohol interlock will take place of the disqualification but it will not be removed unless and until there is evidence of good behaviour and mandatory assessment for an alcohol dependence problem. If he is found to have alcohol dependence, then he will be required to attend three treatment sessions as well.
