WA Alcohol Interlock Program
The alcohol interlock program in Western Australia is tough. For one, a person convicted of DUI (driving while under the influence of alcohol) even for the first offense will be required to enrol in the alcohol interlock program. All subsequent offenders of other drink driving offenses will also be required to enrol in the program. Good driving performance while on the interlock program will be a condition to regain the convicted drink driver’s license.
Enrolment in the program may also be voluntary for others convicted of drink driving offenses. When a drink driver requests to enrol in the alcohol interlock program it will be for a minimum of six months. The program will take the place of the disqualification period which was imposed upon the drink driver by the court. The fines imposed and/or paid already by the convicted drink driver will also be credited against the cost of installing the device in the drink driver’s car.
