Those professional drivers who drive motor vehicles that weigh 4.5 tonnes or more or have a length of more than 7 metres must apply for a heavy vehicle driving license. A driver of a heavy vehicle may be charged and convicted of special range drink driving (BAC less than 0.05%), low range drink driving if his BAC is between 0.05%-0.07% or mid range drink driving when his BAC is 0.07% - 0.15% and high range drink driving if his BAC is higher than 0.15%.
He will be penalised with a fine, with demerit points, disqualification and cancellation of his license. This means that he will not be able to work during the period of his disqualification and he will have to reapply for a new license at the end of the disqualification period. This also means that he will not be able to drive his vehicle without having first installed an alcohol interlock device.
