Drink Driving Repeat Offender VIC

Convicted drink drivers who are repeat drink driving offenders will face severe penalties. A person who, at the time of committing a drink driving offence was previously convicted of drink driving offence or deemed a repeat offender will be sentenced to imprisonment. The duration of the jail time depends on the circumstances of the case, especially on the blood alcohol concentration of the repeat offender. They will serve 6 months to 18 months maximum jail time.

Victoria has this new 10 year road safety strategy which imposed tough measures against repeat drink drivers and drug drivers. Victoria police are authorized to impound the vehicles of the repeat drink drivers where the blood alcohol content is 0.10 or higher. The vehicles will be impounded or immobilized for 30 days. When the repeat offender is charged in court, a minimum of 45 days up to the maximum of three months of immobilization will further be imposed.

There were researches conducted on repeat drink drivers, and they revealed that this type of drink driving offenders have alcohol abused problems. And repeat drink driving offenders were found responsible for 22 fatalities and 500 or more injuries every year comprising 5% of the road toll in Victoria.
