Drink Driving Novice Range VIC

A charge or conviction for a novice drink driving offense can be made only against drivers holding learner’s permits, probationary licenses or those holding full licenses provided they are under twenty-six years of age. These drivers are considered ‘novices’ meaning they are still considered under the law as inexperienced drivers who must maintain a blood alcohol concentration of 0.0% but at the time of their apprehension, their blood alcohol concentration was more than 0.05% but less than 0.07%.

The penalty is a fine of 3 penalty points or an amount roughly equivalent to $422.52. There is also a cancellation of the driver’s license or permit and a period of disqualification for six months. Since their licenses or permits are cancelled as a penalty for their conviction, after service of their disqualification, they must re-apply for a new driver’s license or learning permit. They will only be issued a Z license.
