Drink Driving Low Range VIC
A person can be charged and convicted of a low range drink driving offense when at the time he was randomly stopped, his blood alcohol concentration is higher than 0.05% but lower than 0.07%. The driver must be a holder of a license with a Zero BAC such as professional driver’s license, a learner’s permit or a probationary license. It also applies to drivers holding full licenses if they are aged below 26 years of age.
The penalty for low range drink driving offenses is 3 penalty points or roughly $422.52. It is also penalised with a cancellation of the driver’s license, a disqualification from driving for a period of 6 months and 10 demerit points on his license. A driver is allowed only ten demerit points for every 12 months. If his demerit points exceed the limit of ten points then he will have to serve an additional four months’ period of disqualification.
