High Range Drink Driving Heavy Vehicle
Heavy vehicles present a significant road safety issue because of the long distances they travel and because of their mass and rigidity if another vehicle collides with them.Throughout Australia, it is an offence to drive or attempt to drive a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or another drug.
All drivers holding professional driver’s licenses are required to maintain a blood alcohol concentration of 0.0% while driving said heavy vehicle. Driving a heavy vehicle while the driver’s blood alcohol concentration is higher than 0.0% impairs the driver’s coordination and judgment while on the road.
The penalty would include disqualification, suspension or cancellation of the driver’s license. It will also include fines and demerit points. Where the blood alcohol concentration level of the driver is higher than 0.05% but not greater than 0.08% the penalty will be much higher than if it is less than 0.05% only. If the blood alcohol concentration of the driver is higher than 0.15%, it is considered an indictable and serious offense.
