Drink Driving Penalties QLD
If you are apprehended, charged and convicted of a drink driving (PCA) offense, you will be penalized with automatic suspension of your driver’s license. This suspension will be in place until the date you are to appear in court. When you are convicted by the court of drink driving (PCA), you will be penalized with a period of suspension of your license, payment of a hefty fine or imprisonment.
The period of suspension, the amount of the fine and the length of the prison term increase as the blood alcohol content of the person charged also increases. This means that if your blood alcohol content is 0.05%, your penalty will not be as stiff as when your blood alcohol content is 0.10% or 0.15%.
Please note that these penalties are only for being apprehended with a prescribed concentration of alcohol. There are stiffer penalties if you are convicted with DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol as when your blood alcohol concentration is higher than 0.15%). These penalties do not apply either if you were apprehended for dangerous driving or dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm or death. These are more serious indictable offenses whose penalties are much stiffer.
